Product Description
Lightweight plywood for marine furniture is specifically designed to meet the rigorous demands of marine environments while providing the durability and performance required for high-quality furniture. This plywood is ideal for use in boats, yachts, and other marine applications where weight reduction is crucial, and resistance to moisture and harsh conditions is essential. By combining lightweight properties with high strength and durability, this plywood ensures both functionality and longevity in marine settings.
Production Features
The production of lightweight plywood for marine furniture involves using specialized materials and manufacturing techniques to achieve a balance between weight and strength. High-quality veneers are bonded with phenol-formaldehyde adhesive, known for its resistance to moisture and durability. For marine applications, the plywood is often faced with High-Pressure Laminate (HPL) to enhance its resistance to water and wear. The lightweight nature of the plywood is achieved through careful selection of core materials and construction methods, ensuring it meets the specific needs of marine furniture.
Characteristics
- Lightweight: Significantly lighter than traditional marine plywood, making it easier to handle, install, and reduce overall vessel weight.
- Water-Resistant: Manufactured using water-resistant adhesives and high-quality veneers that prevent damage from moisture and humidity.
- Durable: Resists warping, swelling, and delamination, even after prolonged exposure to marine conditions.
- Eco-Friendly: Made from sustainably sourced materials, minimizing the environmental impact.
- High Structural Integrity: Maintains strength and stability, suitable for both load-bearing and decorative applications.
Types of Surface
Our lightweight plywood is available with various surface finishes to meet the needs of marine furniture applications.
The options include sanded on both sides (S2S), not sanded (NS), and overlaid with High-Pressure Laminate (HPL).
The sanded finish provides a smooth, polished surface suitable for high-quality furniture, while the not sanded option is ideal for projects where additional surface treatment will be applied.
The HPL overlay offers extra protection against moisture and wear, making it suitable for demanding marine environments.
Sizes and Thicknesses Offered by Our Company
Our company offers lightweight plywood in a range of sizes and thicknesses to accommodate various marine furniture applications.
The standard thicknesses available are 15 mm and 19 mm, with additional HPL-faced options in 17 mm and 21 mm thicknesses.
The plywood comes in sizes such as 1525×1525 mm and 2950×1525 mm, providing flexibility for different design and construction requirements.
These options ensure that our plywood can be tailored to fit the specific dimensions and weight considerations of marine furniture projects.
Areas of Application
This Lightweight Plywood is versatile and suitable for a wide range of marine furniture applications:
- Cabinetry: Perfect for constructing lightweight cabinets that maximize storage without adding unnecessary weight.
- Seating: Ideal for crafting benches, chairs, and other seating options that are both comfortable and resistant to moisture.
- Tables and Counters: Durable enough to create sturdy tables and countertops that can withstand daily use in a marine environment.
- Wall Panels and Partitions: Lightweight and easy to install, making it suitable for use as wall panels and room partitions in cabins and living areas.
- Deck Furniture: Excellent for outdoor furniture exposed to the elements, ensuring longevity and resistance to the harsh marine climate.
Grades
We provide lightweight plywood for marine furniture in a variety of grades to suit different quality and performance needs.
The available grades include B/B, B/BB, BB/BB, BB/CP, BB/C, CP/CP, CP/C, and C/C. Each grade reflects the quality of the veneer and the plywood’s overall appearance and structural integrity.
Higher grades such as B/B and B/BB offer superior surface quality and finish, while lower grades like C/C are more cost-effective and suitable for applications where appearance is less critical.
Adhesive
We use phenol-formaldehyde adhesive in the production of our lightweight plywood for marine furniture.
This adhesive is known for its strong bonding properties and resistance to moisture, which is essential for the durability of marine applications.
The use of phenol-formaldehyde ensures that the plywood maintains its structural integrity and performance, even in challenging marine conditions.
Formaldehyde Emission and Moisture
Our lightweight plywood features a low formaldehyde emission rate of 0.1-0.2 mg/m² h, well below the norm of 3.5 mg/m² h.
This makes our plywood a safer choice for indoor and enclosed marine environments, ensuring it meets strict health and environmental standards.
The moisture content of the plywood ranges from 5-12%, which helps prevent warping and maintains stability in varying humidity conditions.
Package Weight
The weight of one package of our lightweight plywood for marine furniture ranges from 600 to 1100 kg, depending on the thickness and size of the sheets.
This weight range allows for manageable handling and transportation, accommodating different project sizes and logistical needs while maintaining the lightweight characteristics crucial for marine applications.

The images show how the plywood approximately looks. The plywood sheets may differ from the photographs below within the ambit of permissible defects. Each grade has its own permissible defects, check with your manager for details.
Grade B/B, B/BB plywood is used in furniture production and interior and exterior decorating. If the appearance of the sheets and maximum strength are crucial for your objectives, it’s best to choose grade B, which also has the tightest technical control when it comes to production. Only minor defects are permissible.
Grade BB/BB, BB/CP is mainly used as a flooring base or as various furniture elements, and also as a foundation for laminated plywood.
Grade CP is perfect for designs where the appearance isn’t the primary concern or ones hidden from view. It’s used to make packaging materials or flooring backer boards. The prevalence of noticeable defects is higher compared to better grades.
Grade C is reserved for products where the appearance doesn’t matter at all. There may be quite a few visually noticeable defects. That being said, we still guarantee the veneers are properly glued together. Suitable to be used as packaging since, despite the low-tier grade, the plywood is still water-resistant and strong.
