Not every sheet cuts the same. Plywood for laser cutting requires consistent veneer density, a void-free core, and a glue line that doesn’t contaminate the beam path or leave char on the cut edge. At Alvi-Bel, we stock four panel types purpose-selected for CNC routing, CO₂ laser cutting, and precision engraving: Birch Laser plywood, Birch interior plywood, Falcata interior plywood, and Ilomba (Calabo) ureic plywood – all available from stock, with thicknesses starting at 2.7 mm and minimum order from one bundle (~1 m³).
All panels ship wholesale to manufacturers, fabricators, and workshop buyers across the EU.
What Makes a Good Plywood Sheet for Laser Cutting?
Laser cutters are unforgiving of inconsistency. A single void in the core deflects the beam, causes blowout, or leaves an uncut bridge in the middle of your part. A glue line with inconsistent resin distribution produces variable char depth on identical passes. These are the four properties that separate a laser-optimised panel from a general interior sheet:
- Void-free core. Each veneer layer must be continuous, without gaps or filler plugs. Birch and birch laser plywood are the industry standard here – the tight, consistent grain structure of Baltic birch minimises internal voids more reliably than most other species.
- Even density across the face. Density variation causes inconsistent cut depth even at fixed power settings. Birch and falcata both offer low density variance; ilomba (Calabo) adds a hardwood face veneer with fine, uniform grain for clean engraved detail.
- Compatible adhesive. Ureic (UF) adhesive – used in all four panels in this range – is CO₂ laser-compatible. Avoid phenolic (WBP) glue for laser work where possible: it burns darker and produces more residue on the cut edge.
- Thin, stable construction. Panels from 3 mm to 12 mm are the most common range for decorative and precision laser work. Falcata starts at 2.7 mm – the thinnest option in our range – for applications where minimum material weight and kerf width matter.
If your application is structural flooring or outdoor cladding rather than precision fabrication, see our plywood for flooring and exterior plywood ranges instead.
Laser Cutting Plywood – Products in Detail
Birch laser plywood is our dedicated laser-cutting grade: birch face and core, ureic bonding, B/BB and BB/BB face grades, 1525×1525 mm format. Thicknesses run from 3 mm to 18 mm – the range that covers the vast majority of decorative laser work, model making, signage, and interlocking component production. The balanced veneer construction (odd number of plies, alternating grain) minimises warping under heat, which is a persistent issue with lower-grade panels in high-volume production runs.

Birch Interior Plywood – Broader Thickness Range, Same Core Quality
Birch plywood for laser cutting in its interior grade offers the widest thickness selection in the category: 3 to 30 mm in 15 steps, 1525×1525 mm format, ureic bonding, face grades B/B through BB/BB. For operations that laser-cut thinner sheets but also route, mill, or saw thicker birch components, this range consolidates sourcing into a single species. Available in stock.
Falcata Interior Plywood – Lightest Option, Finest Thin Sheets
Falcata is one of the least dense commercially available plywood species. At 2.7 mm – the thinnest sheet in our entire range – it produces minimal kerf waste and handles intricate detail cuts that would stress-fracture a denser panel. Melaminic bonding, B/BB to CP/C face grades, 2500×1250 mm format. The larger sheet size suits nested cutting on wide-format machines. Thickness options from 2.7 mm to 18 mm. Available from stock.
Falcata is also used for decorative packaging and display structures where weight-to-rigidity ratio matters as much as cut quality.
Ilomba (Calabo) Ureic Plywood – Hardwood Face for Engraving Detail
The ilomba (Calabo) ureic panel brings a tropical hardwood face veneer to laser work. Its fine, even grain and pale cream colouration make it suitable for engraving applications where the contrast between engraved and unengraved surface needs to be visually distinct without staining. B/BB and BB/CP grades, 1220×2500 mm format, 3–30 mm thickness range, CARB and TSCA certified. Available from stock from 619 EUR/m³.
The pale tone of ilomba also complements applications requiring a white plywood aesthetic without a factory-applied coating.
How to Choose the Right Plywood for Laser Cutting
The right panel depends on three variables: machine type, application, and volume. Here is a practical selection guide:
- CO₂ laser, decorative cutting (3–6 mm): Birch laser plywood or birch interior plywood. Tight core, consistent burn rate, clean edge in thin sections.
- CO₂ laser, intricate detail or very thin sheet (2.7–4 mm): Falcata. Lowest density, minimal stress fracture risk on fine bridges and small radii.
- Laser engraving with visual contrast: Ilomba (Calabo) ureic. Hardwood face holds fine engraved lines; pale base colour maximises contrast.
- CNC routing alongside laser work: Birch interior plywood (3–30 mm). One species covers both processes; no cross-contamination from phenolic glue lines.
- Large-format machines (nesting): Falcata (2500×1250 mm) or ilomba ureic (1220×2500 mm) offer more usable area per sheet than the 1525×1525 mm birch format.
Why Buy Laser Cutting Plywood from Alvi-Bel?
- Stock availability on three of four laser-cutting grades – no waiting on bulk production runs for standard workshop orders.
- Minimum order from 1 bundle (~1 m³) – accessible for small fabricators, laser studios, and prototype workshops, not just large manufacturers.
- Four species in one catalogue: birch, birch laser, falcata, ilomba – covering thin-sheet precision, large-format nesting, and hardwood-face engraving in a single supplier relationship.
- Pan-European wholesale delivery – organised transport to all EU countries and beyond, calculated to your destination.
- Volume pricing – per-unit rate decreases with order size; custom commercial terms available for regular buyers.
- CARB and TSCA documentation available on ilomba panels for compliance-sensitive applications and US-bound re-exports.
Beyond laser cutting, Alvi-Bel supplies the full plywood range: exterior plywood, flooring-grade plywood, and white plywood – so multiple project requirements can be consolidated into one order.
