Interior plywood is engineered for applications where the panels remain protected from direct moisture exposure – furniture production, cabinet making, interior fit-out, joinery, and precision CNC work. At Alvi-Bel, we stock and source seven distinct interior plywood species and constructions: birch, birch/alder, birch-faced poplar, poplar, falcata, ilomba (Calabo) phenolic, and ilomba (Calabo) ureic – each with its own thickness range, sheet format, bonding type, and certifications.
All panels ship wholesale across the EU from stock or to order, with volumes starting from a single bundle (~1 m³).
What Is Interior Grade Plywood?
Interior grade plywood is manufactured with ureic (UF) or melaminic (MF) adhesive – both formaldehyde-based glues approved for dry or semi-dry conditions (EN 636-1 and EN 636-2). This makes the panels stable and safe for enclosed spaces, but not suitable for prolonged outdoor exposure or direct water contact.
The key differences from exterior-rated panels lie in the glue class and face grade combination. If your project involves constant moisture, rain, or direct ground contact, see our exterior plywood (WBP / Okoume) range instead.
How to Choose Interior Plywood by Application
Different interior environments demand different panel characteristics. Below is a practical guide to matching the right plywood to your project. For a deeper technical breakdown of species, grades, and glue classes, read our article: What Is Birch Plywood?
Furniture & Joinery
For furniture frames, shelving, cabinets, and joinery components, the priorities are a clean face surface, consistent thickness tolerance, and stable glue line. Birch/Alder interior plywood (CP/C, C/C grade, 1525×1525 mm, FSC-certified) is a cost-effective choice for structural furniture parts where the face will be painted or laminated. Birch-faced Poplar plywood (BB/CP, 2440×1220 mm) gives you a birch veneer on a lighter poplar core – useful where weight matters. Poplar interior plywood (B/BB, 2500×1220 mm) offers a clean surface in a wide thickness range up to 40 mm, with full CARB, TSCA, PEFC, FSC, and CE coverage for export-sensitive projects.
Interior Fit-Out
Wall panelling, decorative partitions, and built-in elements benefit from panels that are easy to work, take finish well, and remain dimensionally stable in climate-controlled interiors. Ilomba (Calabo) interior plywood – phenolic (BB/BB, 2500×1220 mm and 3100×1220 mm, FSC/CARB/TSCA) combines a tropical hardwood face with a phenolic glue line for improved surface hardness. Poplar interior plywood also serves fit-out well, especially in large-format sheets.
CNC, Laser & Technical Applications
When precision matters – clean laser cuts, router paths, model making, or decorative packaging – Falcata interior plywood (melaminic bonding, 2500×1250 mm, thicknesses from 2.7 mm) and Birch interior plywood (ureic, 1525×1525 mm, B/B to BB/BB face grades, up to 30 mm) are the primary options in our range. Falcata is especially lightweight for its thickness, while birch provides the tightest core construction for fine detail work.
Interior Plywood Species at a Glance
Birch Plywood Interior
Birch interior plywood is the industry benchmark for tight, consistent core construction. Its alternating grain layers produce a flat, warp-resistant panel with uniform density – qualities that make it the preferred material for CNC routing, technical applications, and quality furniture. Our birch interior plywood is available in 15 thickness options from 3 to 30 mm, in 1525×1525 mm format, bonded with ureic adhesive. Face grades run from B/B through BB/BB for demanding visual requirements.
Birch/Alder Interior Plywood
Combining birch and alder veneers in both face and core, this panel occupies a practical cost/quality position below pure birch. CP/C and C/C grades suit structural furniture parts, back panels, and interior carcass work where aesthetic face requirements are secondary. Available in 8 thicknesses (6–24 mm), FSC-certified, 1525×1525 mm format.
Poplar Interior Plywood
The lightest option in the range. Poplar core gives significant weight savings versus birch – an important factor in flat-pack furniture, wall panels, and applications where repeated handling matters. Our poplar interior plywood reaches up to 40 mm thickness in B/BB grade, with the broadest certification stack (FSC, CARB, TSCA, PEFC, CE) in the category.
Ilomba (Calabo) Interior Plywood
Ilomba (Calabo) is a West African tropical hardwood veneer species known for its fine, even grain and pale cream colour – similar in appearance to white plywood finishes but with a natural wood face. We offer two constructions: ureic-bonded (B/BB, BB/CP, 1220×2500 mm, CARB/TSCA certified) for CNC and technical work, and phenolic-bonded (BB/BB, 2500×1220 mm and 3100×1220 mm, FSC/CARB/TSCA) for furniture and interior fit-out requiring improved surface hardness.
Falcata Interior Plywood
Falcata is one of the lightest commercially available plywood species – roughly 30–40% lighter than birch at the same thickness. Melaminic bonding and face grades from B/BB to CP/C make it suitable for laser cutting, decorative packaging, and lightweight display structures. Sheet size 2500×1250 mm, thicknesses from 2.7 mm to 18 mm. Available from stock.
