Packaging plywood is built for one purpose: protecting goods in transit and storage without adding unnecessary cost or weight to the crate. At Alvi-Bel, we supply three species specifically selected for packaging and logistics applications – Pine plywood, Eucalyptus plywood, and Pine/Eucalyptus combi plywood – all phenolic-bonded, FSC, CARB, TSCA, CE, UKCA, and IHPA certified, available from stock or to order from 389 EUR/m³.
All packing plywood sheets ship wholesale across the EU in volumes from 1 m³. Contact our team for a current packing plywood sheets pricelist based on species, thickness, and destination.
What Is Plywood for Packaging?
Plywood for packaging is a category of structural panel used to build export crates, pallet bases, box sides, machine packing frames, and protective enclosures for heavy or fragile goods in international logistics. Unlike interior furniture-grade panels, packaging plywood prioritises load-bearing capacity, resistance to handling damage, and compliance with international phytosanitary and import regulations – especially ISPM 15, the international standard governing wood packaging materials in cross-border trade.
Phenolic (WBP) bonding is standard across all three products in this range. This ensures the glue lines remain intact under the temperature and humidity variations typical of container shipping, sea freight, and outdoor storage – conditions that would cause delamination in ureic-bonded interior panels.
The IHPA (International Hardwood Products Association) certification carried by all three products in this range is particularly relevant for plywood packaging for export – it confirms the panels meet the requirements of importing countries that scrutinise wood certification documentation at customs. FSC certification supports green procurement requirements from end buyers in regulated markets.
Packaging Plywood Products – What We Supply
Pine Plywood – Entry-Level Packing Plywood from 389 EUR/m³
Pine plywood is the standard specification for general industrial packaging, pallet construction, and export crating where cost efficiency is the primary driver. Pine is a widely available softwood species with a consistent density that saws, screws, and nails cleanly – important properties when crates are assembled under production-line conditions.
Our Pine plywood is available in five thicknesses from 9 mm to 21 mm, in 2440×1220 mm sheets, phenolic bonded, in grades BB/C, CP/C, and C/C. Certified: FSC, CARB, TSCA, CE, UKCA, IHPA. Pricing from 389 EUR/m³. Available to order.
Pine/Eucalyptus Plywood – Balanced Strength-to-Cost for Logistics
The Pine/Eucalyptus combi panel combines a eucalyptus face veneer with a pine/eucalyptus mixed core, delivering improved face hardness over pure pine at the same price point. This makes it the practical choice for packaging applications where the panel face is exposed to handling, stacking, or abrasion – side panels on open-sided crates, pallet top decks, and multi-trip packaging that goes through multiple handling cycles.
Same specification as Pine plywood: 9–21 mm thicknesses, 2440×1220 mm format, phenolic bonding, BB/C through C/C grades, full FSC/CARB/TSCA/CE/UKCA/IHPA certification stack. From 389 EUR/m³. Available from stock.
Eucalyptus Plywood – High-Density Packing Panel for Demanding Applications
Eucalyptus plywood is the premium option in the packaging range. Eucalyptus is a dense hardwood species – significantly harder and stiffer than pine at equivalent thickness – making it the specification for heavy machinery crating, high-load pallet bases, and export packaging for industrial equipment where panel failure under load would cause damage to the goods.
Available in seven thicknesses from 5.5 mm to 24 mm across two sheet formats (2440×1220 and 2500×1220 mm). Face grades BB/CP and BB/C. Phenolic bonding, FSC, CARB, TSCA, CE, UKCA, IHPA certified. From 566 EUR/m³. Available from stock.
The same eucalyptus species is also used in our film-faced / laminated plywood range for flooring, site hoarding, and concrete formwork – if your project requires both packaging panels and film-faced structural sheets, both can be sourced in one order.
How to Choose the Right Packaging Plywood
The right panel depends on the weight of goods being packed, the number of handling cycles, and the import regulations of the destination country:
- General industrial crating and single-trip export packaging: Pine plywood (9–18 mm). Lowest cost per m³, adequate strength for standard loads, full IHPA and FSC documentation for customs.
- Multi-trip packaging, open-sided crates, stacking pallets: Pine/Eucalyptus combi. Better face hardness than pine at the same price – survives more handling cycles before showing surface damage.
- Heavy machinery, industrial equipment, high-load bases: Eucalyptus plywood (12–24 mm). Higher density and stiffness provides the load-bearing capacity that pine cannot match at equivalent thickness.
- CNC-cut custom crate components and precision packaging inserts: Eucalyptus or Pine/Eucalyptus panels also work well on routing tables. For decorative or precision-cut packaging inserts, see our plywood for laser cutting range with species optimised for fine machine work.
- Export to regulated markets (US, UK, Australia, Japan): All three products carry CARB, TSCA, CE, UKCA, and IHPA certification – the documentation set required for import compliance in most major regulated markets.
Certifications for Plywood Packaging for Export
All packaging plywood in this range carries a full international certification stack. Here is what each mark covers:
- FSC – Forest Stewardship Council chain-of-custody. Required for green procurement tenders and buyers with sustainability commitments.
- CARB Phase 2 – California Air Resources Board formaldehyde standard. De facto global benchmark accepted as equivalent to E1 in most EU markets.
- TSCA Title VI – US EPA formaldehyde regulation for composite wood. Required for US customs compliance on import.
- CE – Conformity with EU construction product regulations.
- UKCA – UK Conformity Assessed mark, required for goods placed on the UK market post-Brexit.
- IHPA – International Hardwood Products Association. Recognised certification for hardwood plywood products in international trade, relevant for customs compliance in multiple import markets.
This certification stack makes the packaging plywood range one of the most broadly compliant in our catalogue – relevant for exporters supplying goods to multiple markets under different regulatory frameworks in a single shipment.
Plywood Packaging Applications
Industrial and Machinery Export Crating
The primary use case for packaging plywood is the construction of export crates for machinery, industrial components, automotive parts, and high-value manufactured goods. Phenolic bonding ensures the crate retains its structural integrity through sea container conditions – temperature swings from port to port, humidity from loading to unloading, and the compressive forces of stacking in a container. Eucalyptus plywood in 18–24 mm is the standard specification for base panels under heavy loads; pine or combi panels handle side and lid construction.
Pallet Bases and Logistics Flooring
Plywood pallet bases and packing platform floors demand high load-bearing capacity in thin sections to keep pallet tare weight low. Eucalyptus plywood at 9–12 mm delivers the highest load capacity per millimetre of thickness in this range. For heavier-duty logistics flooring applications – warehouse mezzanine decking, vehicle load floors, temporary site flooring – our dedicated plywood for flooring range offers additional panel types optimised for sustained foot and wheel traffic.
Decorative and Retail Packaging
High-end retail packaging, gift crating, and presentation boxes for premium goods require a panel with a cleaner face grade and better surface appearance than industrial packaging demands. Pine and Pine/Eucalyptus panels in BB/C grade provide an acceptable surface for staining, branding, or labelling. For applications where the packaging surface is the product – visible wooden crates used as display fixtures or brand packaging – white plywood offers a factory-finished surface that eliminates the need for additional coating.
Outdoor Storage and Temporary Structures
Phenolic bonding makes all three panels in this range suitable for outdoor temporary use – site storage enclosures, weatherproof packing for outdoor goods, and temporary protective structures. For applications requiring permanent outdoor exposure or direct ground contact, our exterior plywood range provides the WBP specification in species and grades better suited to sustained weathering.
