Product Description
Product Description
Wire mesh F/W birch/alder film faced plywood is a phenolic-bonded panel with a textured anti-slip surface designed for flooring, transport, and industrial platform applications where slip resistance under load and foot traffic is a primary requirement. The smooth face carries a standard phenolic film while the wire mesh side features an embossed grid pattern pressed into the film during production, creating a durable non-slip surface that maintains its grip properties even when wet or contaminated with dust and light debris.
The birch/alder core provides a stable, consistent base that holds fasteners well and resists delamination under the dynamic loads typical of vehicle decking and industrial flooring environments. At EN 314-2 Class 3, the panel is rated for fully exposed conditions and wet service use.
Description of Production Features
The panel is manufactured with a birch/alder veneer core bonded using phenol-formaldehyde adhesive under high pressure. Phenolic bonding at Class 3 ensures the panel maintains structural integrity through moisture exposure, temperature cycling, and the mechanical stress of repeated loading and unloading cycles. This is the same bonding system used across the film faced plywood range, chosen specifically for its performance in conditions that would cause delamination in ureic or melaminic bonded panels.
The wire mesh film is applied at 120 g/m² on the smooth face and 145 g/m² on the textured wire mesh face. The heavier film weight on the working surface extends wear life in high-traffic applications. Film colour is dark brown throughout, standard for phenolic film faced panels used in construction and transport contexts. Formaldehyde emission meets E1 class requirements and FSC certification is available for chain-of-custody documentation.
Characteristics
- Anti-slip wire mesh surface: Embossed grid pattern on the working face provides grip under wet, dusty, and contaminated conditions.
- EN 314-2 Class 3 bonding: Phenolic adhesive rated for exterior exposure and wet service environments.
- Dual film weight: 120 g/m² smooth face / 145 g/m² wire mesh face – heavier film on the working surface for extended wear resistance.
- Dark brown phenolic film: Standard industrial finish, resistant to abrasion, chemicals, and UV exposure.
- Birch/alder core: Stable veneer structure with consistent density and reliable fastener retention across the full thickness range.
- FSC certified: Chain-of-custody documentation available on request.
Sizes and Thicknesses Offered
Alvi-Bel supplies wire mesh F/W film faced plywood on a standard 2500×1250 mm sheet format.
Available thicknesses include: 10 mm, 12 mm, 15 mm, 18 mm, and 21 mm.
This range covers the most common specifications for vehicle load floors, trailer decking, industrial walkways, and access platforms. Thinner gauges at 10–12 mm suit lightweight platform and flooring overlays; 18–21 mm panels are specified for structural decking where panel stiffness and load distribution matter. Contact Alvi-Bel to confirm current stock and lead times for your required thickness.
Surface Types and Materials
The F/W surface configuration means one face smooth, one face wire mesh:
- Smooth face (F): Standard dark brown phenolic film at 120 g/m², applied to the underside or concealed face of the panel. Provides the waterproof barrier and protects the core veneer from moisture penetration from below.
- Wire mesh face (W): Dark brown phenolic film at 145 g/m² with an embossed wire grid pattern, applied to the working surface. The raised grid creates mechanical grip that performs across a wide range of contamination conditions – wet concrete floors, oil residue, sawdust, and similar industrial environments.
For applications requiring anti-slip on both faces simultaneously, or for smooth film faced panels where slip resistance is not required, the broader film faced plywood and film faced / laminated plywood ranges cover additional surface configurations.
Areas of Application
Wire mesh film faced plywood is most frequently specified in transport and industrial platform applications where phenolic-bonded exterior plywood performance is required alongside a functional anti-slip surface. Primary uses include truck and trailer load floors, vehicle ramps, loading bay platforms, and industrial mezzanine decking where the working surface must remain safe under foot traffic and wheeled equipment movement.
In flooring and interior fit-out, the wire mesh face is used in utility spaces, workshops, and access areas where a hard-wearing, easy-to-clean surface is more important than visual appearance. For plywood for flooring applications requiring a smooth rather than textured surface, alternative film faced and sanded panels in the flooring category provide the appropriate specification.
Anti-slip plywood covers the full range of grip-surface panel options available from Alvi-Bel across different core materials and film configurations.
Adhesive and Formaldehyde Emission
Phenol-formaldehyde adhesive bonds all veneer layers throughout the panel. It is waterproof, chemically resistant, and maintains full bond strength through the wet and dry cycling that occurs in transport and outdoor flooring environments. Formaldehyde emission is within the E1 class range, compliant with European indoor air quality requirements for occupied spaces.
